We all know someone who lives in a perpetual state of glass-half-empty pessimism; a person for whom facing the day means being on the lookout for the traps and pitfalls that others have surely set for them or for the next cosmic joke the universe decides to play. We might even call this type of person paranoid!
Of course, we ALL feel that way sometimes. But what if, instead of feeling paranoia that everything and everyone is out to “get us,” we turn that notion on its head and start believing that everything and everyone placed in our path is out to HELP us?
Think about it. If we turn paranoia on its head and consider that every person and experience is placed in our path in order to propel us forward, rather than impede us, we automatically become more empowered and positive people. And the more positivity we put into the atmosphere, the more we attract! The more we experience good things, the more willing we are to put ourselves out there, just waiting for the next awesome thing that’s surely coming our way.
Conversely, when we act as though there are “boogie men” around every corner, we retreat. We hide from the world in fear of being hurt. But when we hide from the bad, we are also hiding from the good! We are missing out on experiences that could change our lives for the better.
Inverse paranoia can be a powerful tool. Why not give it a go? Instead of feeling the universe is conspiring against you, consider that it is conspiring to do good things FOR you. For instance, let’s say you’re running late one morning and as you grab your coffee, you spill it down your shirt. Instead of cursing as you rush to change, you might instead pause and think, “Well, perhaps this is keeping me out of trouble on the road right now!”
It really is just that easy, but the change in outlook will come back to you many times over.
I’d love to hear how this works for you! Let me know in the comments what “inverse paranoia” means in your life.
