Let’s discuss the idea of rejecting rejection. Yes, rejection is a natural part of life, even when you’re on your way to success! You never have anything to lose by asking…
This the part of your journey that no one really likes to talk about. Sure they talk about it after the fact, when success has set in, but rarely is it glorified in the throes of the process. Rejection will happen and it will toughen you up in the process. But you need to be like a duck and let it roll off of your back and just keep paddling along.
Reject rejection – do not accept it as the end of your road. It is just an alternate route that you are taking on your journey. Do not be defeated by these detours, they are only putting you on the path that you need to take, to learn lessons that you haven’t yet learned to help you along the way. The battles that you don’t see coming are most certainly battles that you aren’t prepared for, and the lessons of rejection are going to give you experience that you don’t yet have. So again, reject the negativity of rejection and embrace the positive and lessons that you can take from those experiences to move forward in your journey of reaching your goals and making your dream life. You are a student in this school, and the lessons will come in many forms, rejection is just one of those, so learn to embrace it, learn from it, and see things in a different light.
If you need to feel like you’re on the winning side of this all, and rejection isn’t something you take lightly, build you resilience and look at the rejection as an opportunity for growth, be committed to finding a different route (remember that ‘no’ is not the end of the road), and focus your time and energy on events that you have control over!
Rejecting rejection comes with bouncing back and trying one more time. By having a positive outlook at life and a strong desire to achieve solid personal goals, as well as by not worrying about what others think about you, or by taking rejection personally (feeling victimized), you are the one who is directing your path again!
Resilience to rejection can be developed in several ways by:
- Taking care of your mind, body and soul by getting enough sleep and exercise. These two combined are a magic formula to help you manage your stress levels tremendously.
- Positive thinking and not allowing negative thoughts to derail you off your path to success
- Learning from the rejections – “if it doesn’t kill you, it makes you stronger” applies!
- Choosing how you respond to rejection – remember it’s nothing but a state of mind!
- Maintaining perspective – ask yourself what the impact of the rejection will make on you on the long term!
- Making sure the goals you have set for yourself are SMART – have a look at them again to see if you need to adjust your goals and be ready to redirect!
- Developing a strong sense of self so you have the inner strength to keep moving forward and to take the risks you need to take to succeed.
- Developing and maintaining strong friendships and relationships in your professional network to be more resistant to stress and be happier in and outside of work!
- Understanding that curve balls are sometimes thrown at you which will affect your carefully-made plans – be flexible and redirect your journey to success!
Remember, reject your rejections and move on! Tomorrow another opportunity awaits and success will come to those who wait… and pursue!
