As you take each new step along the path of your journey of fulfilling your destiny and dreams, you will be both rejected and accepted. And acceptance and rejection both come with feedback. Some will be positive and some will be negative.
Wow, there’s so much “this” for “that” and not “this” without “that” isn’t there!? Yes, with all good comes bad, with all success comes failure. But I will not go on about that, it’s something we all know.
What I want you to understand is that how you choose to respond to this feedback will be what defines you. Do it with thought and careful action. Do not sit and dwell on what you don’t want to hear, take it, process it, and think about what you’ve been told. Is there any truth to it? Is there something that you can learn from this feedback? Sometimes there won’t be anything – you can just take that as a lesson in learning how to deal with negativity – but often there will be. A successful individual learns to see all sides to a story. Unless you are superhuman, you are not capable of knowing all of the answers. But you can trust that even the people you disagree with can provide you with valuable lessons and feedback.
Think of it this way, that when you are walking, and you trip on a ditch in the road, you know that the next time you are on that road, to avoid that ditch. You have taken a negative experience, and learned from it, and made smarter decisions moving forward. Now, take the feedback, and maybe even go one step further and ask more questions about why that person said what they said, or feels the way that they feel about things. Be the student. I guarantee that you will find new ways of looking at things, answers you didn’t know that you needed, and resources and partnerships that you will find invaluable for future battles along the way.
Another thing to consider is that you will be challenged, rejected, accepted, and triumphed even when you reach your goal. There is not a “Total Victory” sign at the end along with a Stop Sign – your journey is never ending, but your goals along the way will build upon each other to make each victory sweeter, because you bring along humility from knowing that you don’t have all of the answers.
