One of the best tips ever given to me was the Rule of Five. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Entrepreneurs tend to be vision oriented, with less attention or care to small details and tasks. When it’s easy to get lost in the “big picture”, it’s more important to drive home the small steps it takes every day to get there.
So where to begin? Every day, do 5 specific things that will move your goal towards successful completion. These tasks should be actionable and simple to execute. Prioritize income producing activities and revenue generating tasks over creative and big picture tasks.
Productivity should not be measured by time spent and instead on how effectively you use your time. Learning to strategize with the Rule of Five will keep you on task, on target, and in forward momentum.
You can also feel free to adapt the Rule of 5 to suit your own needs and routine. For instance, you may choose 5 things that are the MOST important to you and do them EVERY day as a self-care and personal development ritual. You might, for instance, choose to pray, meditate, exercise, read and paint every single day.
Or, your Rule of 5 might be TOTALLY business related and centered around the 5 MOST important tasks of operation being completed first thing in the morning.
The key is to adapt the rule to work for YOU so that you establish a practice and cultivate a habit of working with your top priorities!
The system works, so work it.
