Every day you’re going to face some form of fear.
You know what it feels like. Your palms sweat, your stomach tightens, your vision narrows and your heart pounds in your chest.
Everything in your body tells you that danger is imminent. Your mind begs you to play it safe, because it knows that what you’re facing has the potential to change everything in your life… and you may never be able to go back.
However (as any thrill-seeker will attest), overcoming any fear is one of the most exhilarating experiences you’ll ever have… and often the most rewarding.
Having courage means acknowledging your natural fear response, then summoning the willpower to move toward your heart’s desires, rather than holding back and bowing to your brain’s overactive alarm system.
Fortunately, the situations you fear aren’t usually life-threatening or insane. Asking for a promotion, pursuing your life’s purpose and passion, expressing your love for someone, making a heartfelt apology, or standing up for your personal values are all acts of courage. Sure, you may be rejected, ridiculed or laughed out of the room, but what you stand to gain is so much more important. Fulfilling relationships, a world that supports you, and a life of exciting breakthroughs and fulfillment… all of these are well worth the risk.
It takes heart to get from where you are to where you want to be. It takes a willingness to fail, fall or falter. A life worth living takes day-to-day courage.
