Step 13 to a Portable Career: Selecting your ‘Dream Team’ to support you

We have come to the final blog of the Designing and Creating a Portable Career series. I hope that by following the steps covered in the series you were able take your time for the Self-discovery phase and actually got started on the Creation phase of your Portable Career. If so, you have lots of reason to celebrate the journey that you have made!

Possibly you still find yourself stuck in certain areas or you feel that you just need some solid support to guide you through the process and help you create a Portable Career of your choice! No need to panic!

There is a wide selection of career development professionals out there such as Coaches, Counselors, Therapists, Advisors, Consultants and Career Management Firms out there. Their approaches in assisting you are different. Depending on your own preference and phase in life, you can make your choice. When you do the research for the right professional, keep an eye on the experience, training, certification, and specialization they have, as well as on the specific services offered, the references, the price and most importantly the fit between your needs and the personality match between you and the service provider.

Personally, I strongly believe that one’s identity and personal happiness is strongly linked to continuous learning and personal development throughout one’s life. It is an evolving trip that is a meandering journey powered by your passion and calling ready to be shared with your world. Sometimes you just may need a bit of help! I became a trailing spouse when joining my husband on his new career adventure to Uganda. I had just finished medical school and was full of ambition, so I found a job as a GP and worked hard with long hours in hospitals for 3 years, even though I had young kids.
