Ask! Ask! Ask! – you’ve got to ask!
Approximately a thousand times a day my kids ask me for something. And approximately half of those times I say “no”, or “not now”, or “what?”…but there are also the times that I say “yes”…and so they continue to go for it, despite not always getting what they want.
You won’t always get what you want, you will hear no. But you won’t hear yes – or no – if you don’t ask. Everywhere around you are people who are holding the tools that you need to accomplish your goals. These tools come in many forms, they may be physical resources, intellect, or connections that you need to get the job done. People love to help, so ask them to help you. Be resourceful. You will not go into any venture knowing everything, and having everything that you need to reach your goal will never be within your immediate reach. That would be too easy, and honestly, not something that you’d appreciate. A well-earned and hard won victory is much more valuable than being handed anything. So I encourage you to ask ask ask! This powerful and often neglected action is an invaluable resource that you have – for free – and within your reach.
Asking does not mean you will get what you want at first, or at all. But you will gain two things, confidence in yourself for asking, and the fear of failure will diminish with each time that you practice asking. Then there is always the chance that you will get what you want.
And let’s also consider the possibility that you not only won’t get what you want, but what if you get something else from it? Another connection? Another introduction? A delay in action that is perfectly time and sets you on a better course? All of these can work to your favor and may be exactly what you need rather than what you want. But as the saying goes “You’ll never know unless you ask.” And now is the time to take the leap of faith and do just that.
