Oliver Wendell Holmes said that “Many people die with their music still in them.” Why is this so? Too often it is because they are always getting ready to live. Before they know it, time runs out. Why is that? What is it that makes us so afraid to just get started with that first step? There is never a perfect time to start. Nothing will ever be just right, but you will adjust. The best strategy is just to jump in and get started. You do not have to know everything to get going, you just need to know that it’s what you want. You need to just get into the game to play. The means and resources will appear to you as you make your journey. You will build your wings on the way.
If you need more training, sign up for that class or seminar now, join the networking group that will help you to find out what is necessary – or a waste of time – in getting your two feet on the career path that you desire.
You may need a coach to get where you want to go. We can work together to define these goals, create the path, and map the route. Along the way, we will work around the unexpected and make adjustments to the things that will inevitably happen – and they will happen, that is part of the journey, and part of the learning. A great coach is the guide, the partner, and the encourager that you may need.
Feeling afraid? So did I when I was invited for interviews for jobs that I really loved. But guess what? The fear isn’t going to go anywhere, so you may as well feel it, embrace it, face it, and move it out of the way.
The key is to just get started. Quit waiting until you are perfectly ready – you are already perfect and the only person that can live the life that is destined for you. You never will be “100% ready” – if you were, you’d already be doing the job and living the life you’re dreaming of!
You were designed with a core genius that will be a gift to the world – no, we aren’t all Mozart, but you will change one life at the very least – so that in itself is a gift.
Regret, in my opinion, is one of the worst feelings to experience.
Don’t squander your years getting ready. Take a step. Dive in. Trust that everything you need will appear as you need it.
That’s faith. That’s courage. That’s LIVING!
