Inside of each of us is our core genius – that skill or trait that comes to us without effort….. one thing that you love to do, and do so well that you feel like charging people for it would be unfair. It’s effortless for you and a whole lot of fun. And if you could make money doing it, you’d make it your life time’s work.
We can become so distracted by the grunt work of daily life, that we never get to nurture our core genius. What are your grunt work items? What can be delegated to free up your time to do more of what you love? For example, I have a friend who used to lose her weekends doing lawn maintenance on her yard, and finally realized her 5 hours lost a weekend were worth the $40 it cost to pay someone to do it weekly (for 30 minutes!). Yes, she said that at first it seemed silly and costly to pay someone to do what she could do herself, but then she realized her time was worth more than $8 an hour. Make sense? Sometimes it is worth it to hand off even what you can do it yourself for free. What does your time cost?
I bet you’ll find a lot of hours to free up, and therefore more financial reward to be had when you are delegating. There may be a lull when the pendulum seems to be swinging less in your favor, but give it time to build up and balance out. When you delegate the grunt work – the things that you hate doing or those tasks that are so painful, you end up putting them off – you get to concentrate on what you love to do. You free up your time so that you can be more productive and more creative! And you get to ultimately enjoy life more. Which, my friend, is priceless!
