Vision, Goals, Clarity. When you see these words together, you may feel inspired, or you may feel anxious. Two very different emotions to be sure, but they both signal the same thing – that you are ready for change. You want to get clear on your goals and create a picture of your ideal future.
A question often asked of children is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Often they can answer right away, bringing forth an image of their future with ease, no matter how far-fetched that vision may seem…first train conductor on Jupiter, perhaps?
Why do we, as adults, all too often lose that visionary ability? I suppose it’s partially due to the day-to-day realities that set in – families to care for, bills to pay, and so on. But to live an authentic and fulfilling life, it’s important to regain our inherent child-like gift for thinking big and going after our dreams!
Creating an encompassing vision of your ideal future will allow you to focus and set goals to achieve it. An easy way to start shaping that vision is to take mental notes (or heck, even carry a small journal and jot them down!) about what things inspire you in your daily life, and what things don’t. Using this information as a guide, decide what it is you want to ultimately accomplish, experience, and acquire on your life’s journey from where you are to where you want to be. It’s very important that your goals align with who you are and what makes you happy! This way it will be a pleasure, rather than a chore, to continue working towards them when the going gets tough.
So…what do YOU want to be?
Write it down without judgment! What would you do if you knew that nothing was too far-fetched?
What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
Whatever it is? Take a step towards it. You will be stepping towards your destiny!
